BOSS Jason Matthews wasn’t too downhearted after seeing his Weymouth charges lose at Truro City yesterday.

A 2-0 victory for the White Tigers means they are virtually assured of a place in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division play-offs.

However, the Terras are now just one point ahead of St Neots Town in the fourth and final play-off position.

But Matthews felt he saw enough in the visitors’ display at Treyew Road to make him think their promotion dream can still become a reality.

“Truro can make it awkward for you with the way they play,” he told Echosport. “But I thought we more than matched them.

“We were undone by two set-pieces but had a couple of good chances ourselves, and if one of them had gone in it could have been a different result.

“On the whole I was pleased with the reaction of the players after the performance against Burnham because that was unacceptable.

“I was encouraged by our performance against a good Truro side and although we lost I couldn’t fault the attitude of the lads.”

He added: “We’ve still got a game in hand on St Neots so we’ll be looking at the positives rather than the negatives.”

Matthews revealed that Chris Shephard missed the trip to Cornwall after picking up an illness on the morning of the match.
