ADAM Kelly has cited the loyalty shown by boss Jason Matthews and the support of the Weymouth fans as the reasons for him signing a new deal to stay with the club.

Former Tiverton, Poole and Salisbury man Kelly has penned a fresh one-year contract which will keep him at the Bob Lucas Stadium next season.

The midfielder, 27, originally joined the Terras on non-contract terms in January of last year, not long after Matthews had taken over as manager.

Speaking to Echosport, Kelly revealed that he had turned down offers from other clubs to remain a Weymouth player.

“I did have a few other offers but I was always keen to stay at the club,” he said.

“Jason has been loyal to me since I joined and I wanted to stay because of that.

“I love playing in front of the fans as well, and Weymouth is one of the biggest non-League clubs in this region.

“Players want to play for this club and hopefully we can push on next season.”

The ex-Truro City man went on to add: “If we can learn from last season then we should be looking at the play-offs.

“Maybe we need to change our game a bit, particularly away from home.

“And perhaps we should have more urgency when playing out from the back.”
