SAM Poole has spoken to Echosport about his decision to leave the Terras after more than a decade at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Defender Poole says he is now weighing up several offers from other clubs following his Weymouth exit.

The 23-year-old, manager Jason Matthews’ choice as first-team captain when he succeeded Brendon King, had limited game time last season.

And getting more minutes on the pitch is why Poole decided not to sign a new Terras’ deal.

“Last season was frustrating for me as I was not in the team as much as I would have liked,” he said.

“I had a couple of niggly injuries which set me back, but I felt there were a couple of occasions where I perhaps should have started when I didn’t.

“I just want to be playing as much football as I can and I don’t think I’d have had the opportunity to do that with Weymouth next season.”

He continued: “It was a tough decision to leave and one I didn’t take lightly.

“I’d been at the club since the under-12s right the way through the youth, reserves and first team for four seasons.

“Previous to this season I had been pretty much a main feature in the starting XI.

“I spoke to Jason quite a bit about his plans and I thought the best decision to make was to go and play elsewhere.

“I’ve got a few offers on the table so it’s just a case of making a final decision of where to go.”

Although Poole has brought his long association with the Terras to an end, he is still going to be looking out for their results in the future.

“I wish the club all the best and I hope they can kick-on from last season,” he added.

“Captaining the side was probably the biggest highlight for me, but just playing for my hometown club was a privilege.

“I’ll definitely miss the lads, though I will keep in touch with them and keep an eye out for how they do.”
