DORCHESTER Town have announced the signing of midfielder Charlie Davis from Poole Town.

Davis, who also had a brief spell on loan with the Magpies last season under former boss Graham Kemp, has agreed a year-long deal to come back to the Avenue as part of manager Mark Jermyn’s squad.

And the 20-year-old former AFC Bournemouth youngster, who played for the county town side in their FA Cup clash with Bristol Rovers last term, cannot wait to get working with the Avenue boss, who he featured with as part of the Dolphins set-up.

He told Echosport: “I obviously played with Mark at Poole last season and built up a relationship with him then.

“Mark was always quite fond of me as a player and we had a few conversations when the season had finished.

“With the sort of direction the club is going in and the history the club has, I just thought there was more chance to progress my career and get some more minutes under my belt.

“I spoke to Jem and had a look at what the club wanted to do next season. They are a club that I think can definitely push and be up there next year.

“Jem has the respect of every player and every member of staff due to his longevity at the club and it seems a good time to get involved when it is moving forward.”

And the Magpies’ new recruit believes the Avenue offers the perfect setting for him to showcase his skills.

“From coming from that background of being at Bournemouth, you never give up the dream to get back into full-time football,” said Davis “Dorchester is a club that, with the facilities and the stadium they have, will attract scouts anyway and I’d like to think I could get game time there.”

Speaking about his latest addition, boss Jermyn added: “Charlie is going to fit in well and I really see him enjoying his time here.

“He is certainly someone who I got to know a little bit more and I like the way that Charlie plays. He has good aggression and a good temperament about him. His is also a very fit boy and has good ability.

“I am looking to get Charlie more in the pocket behind the front man. He is quick and is confident on the ball.

“If we can get him in that pocket behind the strikers I think he is going to bring a lot of joy to us.

“Along with the rest of the group we have signed so far, he is a character that we want to work with.”

With Davis secured, Jermyn also hinted that there could be another new addition coming to the Avenue over the next few days.

“We are still in talks with several other players that were here last season,” he claimed.

“However, we are also looking to sign somebody else, hopefully by the weekend. We are trying to be as clever as we can in who we recruit.

You can see certainly by the signings we have made that they need a little bit of experience.

“They are only going to get that through games and they should hopefully evolve together and be at the club for the next couple of seasons.”

  • The Magpies have also confirmed three pre-season friendly fixtures. They travel to Bridport on July 14 (7.45pm), host a Dorset Army XI on July 26 (2pm) and take on Truro City at the Avenue on August 1 (3pm).
