FORMER Terras’ man Alec Fiddes admits he will still keep a keen eye on Weymouth’s results next season and is backing Jason Matthews’ men to secure promotion.

The winger, who has once again linked up with ex-Terras’ assistant-manager Craig Laird at Yate Town for the forthcoming season, revealed he was left frustrated by a lack of game time at the Bob Lucas Stadium, but will remember his time with the club fondly.

Fiddes signed for Weymouth from Weston-super-Mare last December and notably scored an extra-time screamer in the Dorset Senior Cup semi-final against Poole Town in March.

And while it was announced that he would not be part of the club’s set-up next term, looking ahead, the youngster, who turns 21 later this month, believes the Terras will have enough to step up a gear.

“Every week I will be looking out for their results because I made friends in that dressing room. Obviously I hope they get promoted and I think they will,” Fiddes told Echosport.

“I enjoyed my time at Weymouth so much. There is a great group of lads there and I think that next year they will go up because they have the fanbase to do it, and I hope they do it.”

Reflecting on his spell as a Terras’ player, the former Weston wide-man added: “I was just a bit frustrated at the amount of game time I got.

“I felt when I did start I played well but I suppose that’s football. I’m a team player and I wanted what was best for the team.

“My main aim at my age is to play as many games as possible and become more experienced.

“We wanted to get promoted and I know it didn’t work out, but I still enjoyed my time there.

“I’d like to thank Micky (Greeno) and Paul (Maitland) who do a great job behind Jason and Macca (Chris McPhee) who was great as part of the coaching set-up.

“He helped me a lot and spoke to me about understanding the game a bit more and what I had to do to improve my game.”
