MANAGER Jason Matthews has hailed the temperament of fellow goalkeeper Steve Boore, describing his attitude as “first-class”.

Boore, who helped Chickerell United lift the Dorset Senior Trophy last term, has agreed a non-contract deal with the Terras after impressing in training.

The gloveman took his place in the Weymouth goal at Portland United this evening, in a pre-season contest which was abandoned due to fog after 63 minutes with the Terras 2-0 up.

And commenting on his new stopper, boss Matthews told Echosport: “Steve has signed and we are delighted to have him on board.

“We want to give him a chance this season and give myself a little bit more competition. That’s not to say the door is shut either, we have a couple of others on trial.

“Steve has to prove himself at this level but I have a lot of confidence in him and I am chuffed with his attitude, it has been first-class.”

The Weymouth chief also revealed that he is holding talks with the possibility of bringing in a striker, but emphasised that a new face would not be as a replacement for lead frontman Stewart Yetton.

“I have looked into people that we could recruit within our wage structure,” he added.

“It’s not a replacement for Yetts at all. Yetts is not for sale and as far as I’m concerned that subject is dead.”
