MAGPIES’ first-team coach Stuart Heath has been highly impressed with youngster Jonah Ayunga since he has come into the county town squad in pre-season.

Bridport Youth prospect Ayunga, who scored Dorchester’s winner against the Bees’ first-team at St Mary’s Field on Tuesday, started as Dorchester won 2-0 against Yeovil Town under-18s at the Avenue this evening.

And Heath believes the young forward, who had to be replaced in the first half after picking up a knock, could have a bright future at the club.

“We looked at him in training and he made an instant impression,” he told Echosport.

“He can drift wide, has good feet, is a good athlete and is certainly not afraid of the physical side of the game, as some of the established first-team players found out in our first training session.

“He has got some really raw attributes so we are going to look after him, hopefully he will progress and develop with us.

“We have a small squad so we want one or two promising youngsters in there, with the likes of Sam Old as well.

“Hopefully Jonah can continue to progress and we can continue to give him opportunities at the right time. He has made a good start with us, we are looking to sign him on and we believe in Jonah.”

  •  The Magpies’ next pre-season test comes against a Portsmouth Academy XI at the Avenue on Saturday (1pm).
