FORMER Weymouth chairman Nigel Biddlecombe is no longer a member of the club’s board of directors, Echosport can reveal.

The lifelong Terras’ fan, who ended his spell as chairman of the club in September last year, insists he wrote a letter of resignation to the board and also stated he would not be applying for re-election at the club’s next AGM.

And while the club insist they have received no letter from Biddlecombe, they did confirm that the club historian, who took over the Terras with the help of supporters in February 2012, was no longer a director.

Chairman Chris Pugsley told Echosport: “We have had no contact with Nigel for quite some time and I can confirm that he is no longer a director of the football club.

“I would like to thank him for all the good work he has done in the past at the club.”

In November last year, it was also revealed that Biddlecombe was no longer performing the role of club secretary.

Speaking about the overall situation, Biddlecombe, who said when he took over the club that it was a “dream come true”, told Echosport: “I would have to stand down at this year’s AGM on the rotation anyway, so in effect, I am not applying for re-election.

“It’s heartbreaking, as everybody knows I have been around the club for some years, since 1958 to be precise.

“The last season has been pretty difficult for me. First of all I lost the chairmanship, only to find I then lost the secretarial role.

“I don’t think I did a bad job over the previous years keeping the club together in very difficult circumstances.”

He added: “I wanted to see Weymouth Football Club become something that supporters could become involved in at the top level.

“Mr Pugsley is running the club as a business whereas I suppose I wanted to run it as a business come football club.

“My colleagues on the board felt that it shouldn’t be run as a football club, it should be run as a full-on business. I can’t argue with that.”

Asked whether he will still be seen on the terraces supporting his beloved club, London-based Biddlecombe said: “I am not going to go to every game and I’m not going to go to the majority of games.

“I will go to a few, there are a couple of grounds that I want to visit but I am not going to be breaking my back on it.

“I do think that Jason (Matthews, player-manager) is moving forward with both his management team and his players and there could be exciting times ahead.

“I am bound to miss the friends and the contacts I have down there but I have got to make as cleaner break as I can for now and see how I feel after that.

“I think whatever happens in the future, I will always be in awe of the support that I in particular, and the group that was along with me, received in February 2012 when we did get hold of the club.

“At the time I said that I was honoured, and nothing has changed.

“I am still honoured and I am still in awe of the people that trusted me at that time and I hope they don’t feel in any way that I am letting them down.

“I used to really look forward to Saturdays. I will in a different way now.”
