BOSS Jason Matthews was left baffled by the two cautions shown to Weymouth’s Dean Evans which led to the midfielder being sent off against Dunstable Town.

Evans was initially cautioned for a foul midway through the second half by Southampton-based referee Chris Wade and then given a second booking five minutes from time in the goalless draw.

On first glance, Matthews initially believed the original reason for the second booking was for another foul but referee Wade confirmed to Echosport following the contest that it was for deliberate handball.

Reacting to the decision, Matthews told Echosport: “It shocked me really because in real time it was very hard to see and he must have had a very good view of it.

“I think Dean has really been hard done by on both bookings but there’s nothing we can do about it now.

“He has kept his head very well in all the games and it’s just frustrating for him."

Speaking further about the game, Matthews added: “We lacked a little bit of cutting edge where we missed the likes of Chris Shephard and Mark Molesley. Mark jarred his knee late in the warm-up.

“But Josh Grant coming on and getting his first real taste of it was a positive and we kept another clean sheet. We look a very different proposition to last year.”
