KYLE Critchell is set for his first competitive game as Portland United’s assistant manager tomorrow.

The former Wales Under-21 international, who is also registered as a player with the Blues, will be a member of the travelling party that takes on United Services Portsmouth at Victory Stadium (3pm).

“Critch is back now and will come into the squad,” said manager Gary Bailey.

“First and foremost he is going to take up his role as assistant manager. His main role is going to be coaching and on the sidelines.

“But obviously he is a great asset to have if needed and he strengthens our hand, it’s fantastic on both fronts.

“We can’t overlook what he could bring to the table (as a player) if and when needed and over the season there will be times where we will utilise him for sure.”

Central defender Ross Carmichael is expected to be the only absentee from the Blues’ ranks.

United Services Portsmouth were knocked out of the FA Cup at the hands of Bradford Town last weekend. Prior to that they drew 1-1 with Ringwood Town on the opening day of the season.

Speaking about their opposition, Bailey is looking for his charges to go into the encounter with no fear.

He added: “We don’t know much about them so we will go there concentrating on ourselves. If we get that right I think we can match anyone in this league.

“It’s about making sure we are right ourselves and not worrying too much about the opposition.”
