YOUNGSTER Matt Buse believes his background in futsal has improved his skills no end as he continues to develop his game with the Terras.

The 18-year-old central midfielder, who was on the books with both Yeovil and Bristol City at youth level, has earned a place in the current England under-19 futsal set-up and is on the verge of making his international debut.

Buse was introduced to the sport, a modified version of five-a-side, by Wales captain Sion Kitson and has not looked back since.

Speaking about his futsal focus, Buse told Echosport: “I went to play for Bristol City, started playing it there and did well.

“I got into the South West squad, then the South, and then finally got in the England Under-19 squad.

“It was a great experience to go to St George’s Park and be given all the kit, it was amazing. We haven’t had a game yet but it is getting big now and we have a good squad together.”

Football greats Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldinho all played futsal growing up and Buse believes his own technique has been enhanced by taking up the challenge.

“My football has got much better because of it due to the technical aspect and tactical awareness,” he added. “My weight of pass and my long game has got better. It goes together massively and works really well.”

And on the football side of things, the Weymouth prospect, a successful trialist with the squad in the summer, believes he has some great sources of experience to tap into at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

He said: “It’s been really good so far. It’s massive when you have people like Mark Molesley, Macca (Chris McPhee) and Sillsy (Tim Sills).

“That was a real pull to come here because you are learning to play at a good level. Being young you just want to catch on to what they have done.

“They have all been really helpful and obviously Jason (Matthews) has been talking me through everything at what is a big club.”

Weymouth go to Kettering Town today (3pm).
