WEYMOUTH were once again indebted to captain Stewart Yetton on Saturday, and boss Jason Matthews was delighted to see his side seal back-to-back wins ahead of a mouth-watering double-header for the Bob Lucas Stadium outfit.

Yetton, the Terras’ match-winner against Bideford last Tuesday, was on hand to head the only goal of the game at Kettering as Matthews’ men battled to a second consecutive 1-0 victory.

And the result certainly pleased player-manager Matthews with games against St Neots and Dorset rivals Dorchester to come this Bank Holiday weekend.

“The conditions didn’t allow us to keep the ball as well as we have been so it was nice to win ugly,” he told Echosport.

“I think we created the best two or three chances of the game and I only had one save to make.

“I was really pleased with our defending and I’m happy that at this stage of the season that we are not allowing teams to create much against us – three clean sheets in a row proves that.

“And even when Pat Baldwin went off with an injury I thought we coped really well.

“Kettering is a really tough place to go and I fancy they will get a lot of good results at home, so to come away with three points and our first away win of the season was great.

“The togetherness in the squad is showing through now and it was good to get a result like this with two tough games coming up next weekend.”

Commenting on ace marksman Yetton, and those who came off the bench at Latimer Park, he added: “Yetts is Yetts, you know what you’re going to get with him.

“His work rate is second to none and it was nice to see him put away that chance in the second half.

“He (Yetton) pulled off his man really well and it was a great header in the corner.

“Ashley Wells defended really well when he came on, Mark Molesley got another 20 minutes and hit
the bar, and Chris McPhee got some more game time."

Meanwhile, Matthews confirmed that Baldwin was taken off on 57 minutes as a precaution after the defender felt a twinge in his calf.
