BOSS Mark Jermyn has admitted that the Magpies were not going to settle for a point at Chesham on Saturday after dropping two against Merthyr last Tuesday.

Dorchester looked destined to have to make do with a draw in Buckinghamshire as they came under pressure from the Generals having squandered an initial 3-1 lead.

But Jonah Ayunga’s last-ditch strike secured the county town outfit a superb 4-3 win – Bradley Tarbuck, twice, and Lewis Morgan also scored for Jermyn’s men.

Speaking to Echosport, playermanager Jermyn said: “I said to the players before the game that had we won on Tuesday it would have been a case coming home from Chesham pleased with a point.

“But I feel we should have won the game on Tuesday so it was a case of ‘you owe us three points’, and from the start I think we were the better team.

“We were exceptional in the first half but a bit naive at times in the second and our energy levels dropped a bit.

“They did come back at us hard and put us under pressure but even at 3-3 I thought we had so much going forward in attack.

“It wasn’t the prettiest of performances in the second half but it was just a case of getting the three points on the board and moving forward.”

Continued from back page Saturday saw the return to the Dorchester starting line-up of Ayunga, Tarbuck and Chris Dillon.

Although defender Dillon went off as a precaution in the second half, the two other returnees certainly had a big impact on the match.

And Jermyn was thrilled with what Ayunga, Tarbuck and the likes of Morgan brought to the party.

“All the players are chipping in with goals and we do seem to be a team that have threats everywhere,” he added.

“There is a lot of talk about Jonah at the moment and his overall play was very good.

“And if you had seen his goal on the telly you would be raving about it, it was that good.

“You could say the same about Brad’s second goal, and it wasn’t just his finish but our overall play.

“I’m really happy with the pair of them and I also thought Lewis had a great game.”

Dorchester stay fifth in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, three points behind new leaders Weymouth.

Their win at Chesham takes their unbeaten run in the league to six and sets them up nicely for tomorrow’s trip to Slough Town (7.45pm).

“I do feel that we will be a force throughout the season, as long as we carry on competing and keep that belief we have got,” said Jermyn.
