KEEPER Alan Walker-Harris believes “a little bit more” consistency in the Magpies’ performances is needed to help them make a concerted push towards the top of the league.

Dorchester, currently sitting seventh in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, could climb into the play-off places this Saturday when they host Hungerford.

The county town team have won their last two league games– their best run this season is three on the bounce – but they were second best against Kingstonian in the FA Trophy on Monday.

Walker-Harris is pleased with the Avenue outfit’s campaign so far but feels they could be more consistent.

“I think we’re showing that we are very competitive in the league,” he said. “We do need to push on now and maybe be a little bit more consistent. I think we need to look at stringing together a good run of results.

“If we do that and get more consistency in our game then I think we can push on.”

Looking ahead to Hungerford, he added: “It’s going to be a tough game. They are a decent side and it’s always a battle against them. They’ve got some good players and we will have to go toe-to-toe with them, but I expect us to get a result.”

After a handful of games on the bench, Walker-Harris returned to the side against Redditch late last month and has kept hold of the goalkeeper’s jersey in the half-a-dozen league and cup encounters that have followed.

On the importance of playing regularly, he said: “I don’t just want to make up the numbers and sit on the bench, I want to be out there contributing to the team, and I’m not good at watching games anyway.

“I need to be playing to feel like I’m doing something for the team, otherwise I feel like a bit of a fraud. It’s nice to be out there and I’m feeling quite good at the moment.”
