WITH Hitchin Town at the Avenue tomorrow night, Mark Jermyn and his Magpies will want to put Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Hungerford behind them as soon as possible.

Matt Day headed the only goal as the Crusaders inflicted Dorchester’s second home defeat of the season in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

And boss Jermyn was disappointed at the manner by which Hungerford got their winner.

“It’s just frustrating we weren’t able to get back in the game, and also we went behind due to poor defending from a free-kick,” he said.

“We have to do better at freekicks because we are going to come up against those situations a lot and it can’t just be down to Nathan Walker, Matt Oldring and Chris Dillon to head the ball away, more people have to join in the aerial battles.”

He continued: “You could see straight from the start by the way they (Hungerford) played that they had come hoping to nick a goal and go away with a win.

“We on the other hand wanted to go and impose ourselves on the game but we got on the back foot from several free-kicks and I don’t think we dealt well with the freekicks in the first half.

“I said to the players to go and pin them back, but some of our performances just weren’t at the levels required for this standard of football.”
