TOP prospect Jonah Ayunga is poised to join Premier League hopefuls Brighton in a potentially lucrative deal for Dorchester Town.

The Magpies revealed yesterday that they had accepted an offer from the Seagulls for the 18-year-old striker, who only joined Mark Jermyn’s first-team squad last summer.

Ayunga has also agreed terms with the Championship side and the transfer should be completed today, subject to him passing a medical.

A Magpies’ statement read: “The transfer agreement includes a confidentiality clause, but it has the potential to be the biggest receipt in the history of the club over time if Jonah is successful.

“We would like to extend our very best wishes to Jonah for the future and thank him for all his efforts during his time at the club.”

Former Bridport Youth forward Ayunga has certainly caught the eye this term after impressing Dorchester boss Jermyn during pre-season.

He scored on his debut in a 3-0 defeat of Histon on the opening day of the campaign and followed that with another in the next game against Cirencester.

The teenager has netted eight times in total in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, with his last effort coming in the victory over Cambridge City on January 16.

Ayunga watched from the stands on Saturday as Dorchester battled to a 2-1 triumph against Chesham.

It is understood that the striker would initially join Brighton’s under-21s.

The Seagulls, who are bidding to reach the Premier League for the first time in their history, currently sit fourth in the Championship.
