BALTI Sports suffered their second defeat in three matches as they lost 2-0 away at Westland Sports on Saturday as their first season in the Dorset Premier League threatens to peter out.

Two second-half goals from Westland’s Anthony Herrin and Louis Irwin meant that Balti are without a win in four games.

Sports manager Marco Nott thought his side struggled to make an impact on Saturday.

He said: Credit to them they defended well but we just couldn’t break them down.

“We were forcing it too much and it was a bit of a poor day.”

The visitors had plenty of the ball in the first half but struggled to create any clear-cut chances as Westland put up a stubborn defence.

After the interval, the sequence of play continued in the same vain as Balti Sports tried to

produce some cutting edge football.

However, they fell behind in the 55th minute and as they continued to push forward looking for an equaliser they were caught on the counter attack, leaving the points at Westland.

This is the first year in this league for Balti Sports following promotion from the Dorset Senior League and Nott feels the added workload has impacted negatively on their recent form.

He added: “We have a small squad and this is our first season in this league. We’ve played 15 more games than we did last season so I don’t know whether it’s down to the fact that it is a long old season and we’re tiring or lack of squad numbers that is costing us, I don’t know.

“If you make a mistake in this league you get punished.”

With little to play for, Balti’s manager has been pleased with the season overall but he is

hoping that it his side do not fall away.

“We can’t complain about our season but we’ve only got one point from nine against teams we should be doing better.

“We need to get back on top of our game.”

Despite the result there was some good performances in a disappointing display for the away side.

“Ashley Baxter played well coming back from injury,” Nott explained. “But it was a mediocre performance and we’ve picked up a few injuries so we will now be even more stretched for Saturday’s game.”

Balti will visit Mere Town on Saturday (3pm) as they look for a pick-up in form.
