BEN Watson is keeping his options open this summer but his loyalty to the Magpies has not diminished as he hopes for a new contract with the club that will extend his stay for another season.

The experienced striker has had two spells with the club, the second starting two years ago, and he has become a versatile and consistent player for Mark Jermyn’s team.

However he has had no contact with his boss regarding his future.

The striker feels he has more to give for the county town side.

He told Echosport: “I’m still unaware of what is going on for next season, I haven’t spoken to Jem (Mark Jermyn) yet. I know he’s a busy man and I hope we can have that conversation to keep me playing football at Dorchester, where I enjoy my football.

“I want to get things sorted and know where I am playing my football. I want to win trophies and gain promotion, so hopefully we can get it sorted.”

Watson is yet to speak to any other clubs, preferring to talk to his manager first.

He added: “I’m keeping my head down. I owe my loyalty to this club and to Jem first and foremost and we will see where we go from there.”

Watson is enjoying his football at the club and he feels the squad can only improve after a topsy-turvy campaign.

“There is a good bond in the squad and we can compete with the best teams (in the league),” he explained.

“It was an up and down season, we challenged but at the end we faded away.

“Overall, it was a good season and we have something to build on.”

“Jem demands a lot from his players, which is good. He wants us to be professional and I hope we can hit the ground running come July.

But before the season starts Watson has the small matter of getting married on Saturday, June 4 before a 12-day honeymoon in Barbados and Las Vegas.

Despite the trip, he promises that he will be keeping in shape.

“It’s coming around quick,” Watson said.

“I’ll enjoy my honeymoon but I’ll keep ticking over.”

“I’ll be watching the Euros (European Championships) too out there, it’s my passion.”
