LYME Regis are set to meet with former manager Robin Townsend today as they look to replace interim-manager Rob Thom.

Townsend was part of the coaching set-up last season that saw the Seasiders seal back-to-back promotions after finishing second in the Devon & Exeter League Division Two.

Last season’s assistant-manager was offered the job at Christmas but worked under Thom instead.

Now, he is in the frame once more, and this time Townsend is hopeful of securing the position.

He said: “I’ve had discussions with Howard (Larcombe, Lyme Regis chairman) and I will make my mind up after the meeting.

“The meeting is to find out what both parties want from each other.

“The club wants to go a little bit more professional, which is great and I’m all for that.

“We just need to know what we want to achieve and to make sure that both parties are happy.”

Although Townsend has been part of the club during this successful spell, he feels all the plaudits must go to the players and former interim-manager Thom.

He added: “I can’t take any of the credit. It should go to him and the players.

“I’ve been around to help.

“They know what I’m about and it is a fantastic football club.

“The committee do a great job behind the scenes and whoever they pick will be working with a great group.”
