WHILE new hot-shot Sam Jordan admits he is “nervous” at the prospect of stepping into the Terras’ squad next season, he is eager to make the step up and test himself higher up the football pyramid.

The former Bradford Town striker has scored a hatful of goals throughout his career with the Western League outfit but realises he will have to work hard to replicate that form at Southern League level.

Speaking to Echosport about how his move to the Bob Lucas Stadium came about, Jordan, who netted more than 70 times for Town in their Western League Division One title winning campaign in 2013/14, said: “As soon as I knew Weymouth were interested I was excited to potentially be moving there.

“Jason (Matthews, manager) said the side had just missed out on the play-offs last year and that they were lacking a few goals here and there. He said he thought I might be able to help.

“I’ve heard a lot of things about them, they have a great set-up down there with a great team.

“I was more than happy to take the step up and I have always wanted to. It seems a really good opportunity and I know they are a massive club.

“I’m nervous, I’ll give you that. There are some good players in that team and there are players that have come from teams that are a good quality standard.

“I am coming in from leagues below so my nerves are all over the place at the moment if I am being totally honest. Once training starts I will know what kind of team I am playing with and what ability the players have got.”

Asked if he felt he was stepping outside of his comfort zone by making the move up the

divisions, Jordan replied: “Definitely. With Bradford I knew where I stood and I didn’t really test myself.

“I knew if I had a bad game then I would be playing the week after and didn’t really have a challenge.

“I wanted to do it a few years back and I stayed on through loyalty. They had a good side there then with good management but I felt like now it was time for change.

“I always wanted to test myself at a higher level if I could and, now this opportunity has come along I want to grab it with both hands really.”

Also quizzed on what Terras’ fans could expect to see from him, Jordan added: “I am quite a passionate player and I don’t like to give a ball up. I want to just run and run and run.

“A lot of people say that’s my downfall at times but a lot of defenders hate it. Part of my game is I just never give up a lost cause.

“If I can take some of my goalscoring abilities from the league I have been in up to that league, then I will be more than happy to be banging the goals in.”
