NEW signing Nick Swann is hoping to emulate the likes of Jonah Ayunga when he embarks on his first campaign at the Avenue after signing for the Magpies last week, by making an instant impact at Dorchester.

The former AFC Bournemouth academy player made waves in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division last season with Hamworthy United and now is making the step up to the Southern League football.

The teenager was called a “special talent” by former Hammers’ boss Shane Traynor and is hoping to stake a claim for first team football as soon as he can for the Magpies.

He told Echosport: “It is a massive step up for me, and I had a couple of offers from lower down (the league pyramid) but I wanted to go somewhere where I can improve in each training session because I will be playing with better players.

“It will be good to train with the team and get to know everyone during pre-season. Hopefully I can push my way into the first team as soon as possible.”

Swann will be given time to develop at Dorchester by Mark Jermyn and it is something the midfielder appreciates.

He added: “It’s good for me that he (Jermyn) doesn’t want to push me in there (the first team) and I will only go into the first team when I’m ready.

“It’s brilliant that he already has that plan for me and if I’m playing well enough then he will play me.

“I’ve been at clubs before where you play well but you may not get into the first team. It’s good that he’s already stated that he has no qualms to stick me in there.”

Another young player Jermyn gave plenty of opportunity to in the first team was Ayunga.

The striker scored seven goals before earning a landmark move to Brighton & Hove Albion last January.

Swann also wants to keep progressing in his football career and feels the Avenue is right place for his development.

. “Jonah was only in the first team for six months and he had interest from clubs,” he explained.

“It was a big element in me moving here. I want to go as high as I can. I haven’t got a plan, I just want to keep enjoying my football.

“As long as I’m enjoying it then I can take what comes with it.”

Swann has just completed his A-levels and is looking to study Media & Communications at Bournemouth University from September.

However, this won’t interfere with his football and he will be giving 100 per cent to the cause.

He said: “I am going to try and give everything. Whenever I am on the pitch I am looking for the ball and trying to make things happen.”
