DORCHESTER were narrowly beaten in the final of the Dorset Inclusion League Cup by Headway United as AFC Bournemouth retained their Championship crown at Blandford School.

Finals day saw 15 teams across two categories take part in an initial group stage for the right to face off in showpiece finals, which would determine the overall winners of the competition.

Dorset FA welcomed four new teams into the competition: Wimborne Town FC, Dorset Abilities Group (DAG) FC, Dexters Sport Youth, and Headway.

The league competition started off fiercely with Wimborne snatching a 1-0 victory against a competitive Parley side.

Having won Group A – the group for adults with pan-disability – the Magpies seemed firm favourites for the final against Group B winners, Headway.

But they had the cup snatched from their grasp in a tight contest.

In the much anticipated Championship competition, AFC Bournemouth retained their title against a strong Dexters Sport Youth side and won the Championship level of the Dorset Inclusion Cup for a second year running.

The fair play award was presented to Parley Sport Youth for recognition of exemplary behaviour that promoted the spirit of fair play in Football.

DCFA officer Rosie Eggleston said: “Thanks to the Blandford School for hosting the event and to the players and coaches for participating, there were some fantastic performances. The teams played with great spirit and everyone enjoyed the tournament.”
