WEYMOUTH Reserves’ move into the Sydenhams Wessex League was confirmed at the league’s annual general meeting despite opposition from several clubs.

The Terras will play in Division One, however, they will not be eligible for promotion, meaning, under the new ruling, the team in fourth place could be promoted to the Premier Division if the Bob Lucas Stadium outfit finish in the top three.

Club representatives from Hythe & Dibden, Blackfield & Langley and Laverstock & Ford, argued it would “devalue” the competition.

However, the ruling to have a three up and three down system within their leagues was voted in by a majority of 26 to 20.

Weymouth Reserves will be joined by Bashley, Shaftesbury, Baffins Milton Rovers and Hamble Club in the league.

The Wessex League Cup first and second round draws were also done at the AGM with the Terras set to face last year's semi-finalists Brockenhurst in the first round.

If they get past the New Forest club, they will play either Team Solent, who won the competition last season, or Horndean,

Elsewhere at the club, Weymouth Terras Under-18s will not be running trials tomorrow.

Instead, the club has moved the trial to Tuesday, July 5 at 6.30pm on the 3G pitch at Redlands.

The club have also announced a new and extended management team of Terras’ director Tony Greaves and Stuart Walden alongside football and rugby coach Gareth Jones.

The trio will also be bringing guest coaches throughout the season.

This is part of Weymouth’s plan to promote local players into the first team.

The side will be playing in the Dorset League with former captain Adie Brain rejoining the side.

The team will also officially be called Weymouth “A”.

Training will be once a week at Redlands.

Any players who wish to be part of Weymouth’s development squad but cannot attend trials are requested to telephone Graham Cole on 07767 872157.
