FORMER Dorchester Town midfielder Franklyn Clarke has signed his first professional contract after sealing his move to York City after having a trial with the National League outfit.

The midfielder announced on social media that he would be making the step up, thanking both the Magpies and Wimborne Town for their help.

He also said: "Signing my first professional contract is a dream come true. Time to work harder than ever now."

He has signed a one-year-deal at Bootham Crescent with the option of a further year if he impresses the Minstermen management.

Clarke played the last half-hour of City’s 3-0 pre-season victory at Stalybridge Celtic.

Clarke, 23, is hoping to land a professional deal with the Minstermen after combining his Sports Psychology and Coaching studies at Bournemouth University with part-time football at the Avenue, having previously played for Wimborne Town and Blackfield & Langley.

He is now expected to feature in a behind-closed-doors match at Blackburn Rovers tonight (7.45pm).

The City boss told the York Press: “He’s looked quite good since he’s come in and he’s somebody who was recommended to us, so we’re looking at him.

“He’s been at university down in Bournemouth and has had a few trials with clubs down there, but has come back up north and we’ll see if anything comes of it.”

Last month Clarke told Echosport that he was still waiting to make a decision over his future due to the birth of his daughter.

He played 18 times for the Magpies last season and scored against Weymouth on his debut.
