BOSS Jason Matthews is fully backing striker Stewart Yetton to find his razor-sharp scoring form and help fire the Terras to success this season.

Former Truro City man Yetton endured a tough campaign last term as Weymouth missed out on the play-offs.

But, with the frontman looking lively and earning a penalty through sheer determination until a slight injury concern forced him off against Eastleigh in midweek, Matthews is confident his sharp shooter can play a big part in his team’s push for promotion.

Asked by Echosport if he felt Yetton had a point to prove this term, Matthews replied: “Yes, definitely, and I think he will do that.

“I will back Yetts to do it because I know the type of character he is.

“It was a disappointing season for him last year and I know it would have deeply hurt him as well.

“It wasn’t through lack of trying, it just didn’t go his way last year and, hopefully, this year he will put that right.”

He added: “Yetts is a great character and is great to have around the dressing room.

“Being one of the senior heads this year, quite a lot rests on his shoulders and I think that he has the attributes to do it.”

Depending on a groin injury, Yetton may be involved against the side he has both played for and supports, when Plymouth Argyle visit the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

Asked about the striker’s chances of featuring in the friendly, Matthews said: “It depends on his fitness to be fair.

“He obviously felt it (on Tuesday) and he didn’t want to chance it.

“He has had that sort of injury before and I wasn’t willing for him to take the chance because he has looked really sharp since he has come back.

“I want to have a fully fit squad to choose from when it comes to the first game of the season.”

The Terras’ boss is also hoping the clash attracts a big home gate for the club.

“I urge people to come out and watch the game,” he added.

“I think we are putting on a good product at the moment and I am really looking forward to the game. I thank Plymouth for coming.”

Argyle netted 12 times without reply in their demolition of Elburton Villa on Wednesday.

New signing David Goodwillie, who has played in the Premier League for Blackburn, scored four.
