BRIDPORT RES 6

SHERBORNE TOWN RES 5

AN 11-goal thriller saw Bridport Reserves seal their third win in as many Dorset Premier League games this term, as they triumphed against Sherborne Town Reserves.

The Bees fell behind early in the contest and it was only after Shane Evans found an equaliser before the break that the St Mary’s Field side got off the mark, after failing to convert a heap of opportunities.

But in the second half, the game descended into goalscoring chaos.

Goals from Alf Ward and Josh Hunter made it 3-1 to the Bees before the away side rallied back, levelling things up at 3-3.

As the teams continued to trade scoring blows, Owen Ward, brother of Alf, made it 4-3 to Bridport before the Zebras turned the game around once more to make it 5-4.

But Shaun Annetts’ side were not done and up popped Dan Baggs to level at 5-5 and Josh Hunter to net his second, with what proved to be the winner at 6-5.

Reserves’ manager Annetts said: “It just seemed ridiculous.

“It’s one of the few games that I can remember where we have got three points and I feel deflated.

“I didn’t celebrate. I just could not believe what I had seen. I would have rather won 1-0 if I’m honest, that would have been better for me but we will take it.

He added: “Taking the positives out of it, every time we attacked we looked like we could score.

“But every time they went forward they actually did score, which was disappointing for us to have lost that defensive shape.”
