PORTLAND’S Lewis Whyton admitted his latest injury issue is “frustrating at the moment” as he could face another two weeks out.

The island skipper picked up an ankle problem in the first half during the Blues’ home game against Bournemouth Poppies earlier this month.

But he has full faith in the Grove Corner squad to keep up their superb start to the campaign.

The defender, who, after an x-ray, also found out he had chipped a bone in the same ankle with a previous injury from two years ago, told Echosport: “It’s frustrating at the moment. We are playing well but obviously I want to be involved.

“It’s a little bit sore still but it will probably be another two weeks.

“It’s rather annoying, to be honest. It can’t be helped but the team is doing well and we have a good squad.”

Commenting on the island club’s start, which sees them top of the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division pile with four wins from five games, Whyton added: “I didn’t expect it, to be honest.

“We have a big game on Saturday (at home against Blackfield & Langley), they are the side that everybody is talking about in the league.

“They have some good players so it will be interesting to see what they are like.”
