CHRIS Dillon insists he is having to look after his ongoing groin problem but is hopeful of playing a part in both of the Magpies’ Bank Holiday weekend fixtures.

The influential central defender has been plagued by the problem since picking up the injury against Wimborne Town in pre-season but claims “it’s definitely getting better” ahead of today’s home clash against Cambridge City (3pm) and Monday’s derby test at Weymouth.

Having featured in the 1-1 draw against Cirencester Town and scored in the 2-1 win at Banbury last Saturday, the former Eastleigh man is managing the discomfort that the injury is causing him.

Giving an update on the problem, he told Echosport: “It’s still not 100 per cent now so I am just trying to manage myself and the injury so I can play.

“I just have to look after it really and, the thing is, it’s so early in the season, I don’t want to make it worse so I miss more games.

“I felt like I was fit for the Banbury game and managed to last 90 minutes, so it’s definitely getting better.

He added: “At the start of the season they wanted me to play but I didn’t want to prolong the injury even more by returning too early.

“I will try and play both games but Weymouth is a massive game to be a part of. Everyone gets buzzed up for that one so that’s the priority.”
