THE Dorset Premier League (DPL) has told Echosport that Westland Sports’ 20-0 victory at Alvington on Saturday against Cranborne is believed to be a league record scoreline.

The Cranes, who were desperately short on numbers for the encounter, only featured with 10 men having suffered a number of late drop-outs.

Two members of the squad were also believed to have set off for the game but failed to make it to the ground for the fixture.

Cranborne trailed 9-0 at half-time in the encounter, as the home side showed no mercy.

Joshua Payne helped himself to no fewer than seven goals, Jamie Irwin scored five and Lewis Irwin also notched five for the hosts.

There was also a goal for Steven Flynn and the Cranes scored two own-goals to add to their troubles.

A spokesperson for the DPL said: “The league believe it to be league record.”

The Cranes sit bottom of the league pile at present, with just three points from their opening seven games. Their goal difference is a whopping -47 at present.
