MANAGER Jason Matthews felt referee James Robinson’s decision not to award the Terras a second-half penalty “cost us the game” in their 1-0 defeat to Slough Town.

Just a minute after coming on with the game poised at 0-0, Weymouth’s Chris Shephard appeared to be brought down inside the box but nothing was given by Southampton-based official Robinson.

Giving his thoughts on the decision, Matthews said: “I felt it was a really clear-cut penalty. He has obviously caught him on the turn and I felt everybody in the ground has seen it.

“Obviously the ref didn’t give the decision and from that point on I felt the game conspired against us.

“That was a big decision. Those sort of decisions change games. For me, with them then 1-0 down they would have to come out to try and play.

“Unfortunately, we were on the wrong end of a bad decision in my opinion.”

He added: “If we get a penalty decision and we go one up it’s a totally different game.

“On the whole I felt the ref had quite a good game but I just feel he has missed a vital decision and I feel that’s the reason it has cost us the game.”

On his side’s display, he added: “We just couldn’t break them down in the final third, which is frustrating. We probably haven’t scored enough goals this season, that has been our Achilles heel.”
