DORCHESTER Town winger Mario Mateus feels the fans are starting to see his potential as his side get set to take on Frome Town tonight at the Special Effect Stadium (7.45pm).

The diminutive Portuguese midfielder played a part in both of Saturday’s goals against Stratford Town and caused their defence serious problems throughout the clash.

Mateus signed from Paulton Rovers over the summer and has has a stop-start beginning to his career at the Avenue, but now he thinks he is finding his feet.

He told Echosport: “I’m happy that I am hearing the fans on the sideline applauding me.

“At the start it was a bit harder because they didn’t know me, but now I am enjoying it.

“Getting an assist boosts my confidence and I’d like to get a goal soon.

“We are being positive in the changing room because being negative will not improve anything.

“I’ve been at three teams before and if you make a mistake then people get on your back. Here, people are positive when I get the ball.”

Mateus and his team-mates got through the weekend’s encounter unscathed, meaning player-manager Mark Jermyn is likely to name a similar side that fought back to share the spoils in a 2-2 draw against Stratford.

Lewis Morgan, who signed for the Magpies last week, was not ready to play on Saturday, but the boss is hopeful he will be part of the playing squad tonight.

The only player who is sure to miss the clash is Tony Lee.

The striker has returned back to parent club Eastleigh with Lee set to go back out on loan to National League South side Whitehawk.
