JASON Matthews labelled striker Ben Thomson as “absolutely unplayable” following the Terras’ 3-0 win against Basingstoke Town.

The Weymouth hitman produced one of his most accomplished performances of the campaign having got a goal and earned the sponsor’s man of the match award on the night.

The former Frome Town man was taken off to rest up for Saturday’s FA Cup Clash with Kidderminster after an hour against the Dragons but Matthews was highly impressed by his striker’s display.

Asked about Thomson’s performance, Matthews told Echosport: “I thought he was outstanding and was head and shoulders above everyone on the pitch.

“I believe he is one of the best forwards in the league when he is on his game and the fans saw that. He was absolutely unplayable and Basingstoke had no answer to him.

“He is the perfect foil for Yetts (Stewart Yetton), who got his opportunistic goal as usual.”

Matthews added: “It was a magnificent performance in the first 60 minutes.

“I felt in that first 60 minutes we played our best football of the season, we really took the game to Basingstoke.

“I asked the boys for a big performance and it was a must-win game. We keep saying that but our home games are must-win games.

“The league is our main bread and butter. The cup is a welcome relief and the longer we stay in it is brilliant but, at the end of the day, we have set ourselves the target of making the play-offs and I don’t want to fail this season.”
