DORCHESTER Town chairman Matt Lucas said there is “a lot of work to do” before the Magpies can successfully complete their 3G pitch plans that will enhance the community.
The county town side released a statement on Friday explaining they are in the process of completing a business plan that they can submit to apply for a Section 106, which allow them to have a 50 per cent grant.
The other 50 per cent will be raised through other means.
This application still has to be sent and Lucas knows there is a long way to go before the new pitch is laid.
He told Echosport: “We’ve been working on the possibility of a 3G (pitch) for a long time.
“An awful lot of work has gone in. The reason why we are doing it, is because we think it will be a great base for the football club and for everyone that contributes to our club, such as our youth teams and our Ability Counts team.
“We think it will be a very positive thing for the club.”
Asked how close the club are to confirming the new direction, he said: “Nothing can be confirmed because there is a lot of things that need to come together.
“There is still a lot of work to be done and none of us are getting carried away. But, this is something we want to happen for the community as a whole.”
In the statement, the club they are hopeful that the pitch will be completed in the summer of 2017.
