MARK Jermyn heralded Magpies’ captain Jake Smeeton as “one of the best players” at the club over the past few years after he netted a brace to send Dorchester Town to their first win in five games with a 3-0 victory over Frome Town.

Smeeton, scored the opening two goals, one from a free-kick and the other from the spot to set up the win.

After the game, Jermyn was full of praise for the club stalwart.

He told Echosport: “He’s been one of the best players at this football club for a very long time.

“He’s probably not got the credit he deserves. You put him anywhere and he can play.

“He’s made that position (central midfield) his own now and his free-kicks are very good.”

He added jokingly: “I think Nathan (Walker) is waiting for him to miss (a penalty) because I think he feels every striker in the league gets penalties apart from him.”

Another player that impressed was Tom Blair. On his first start for the side, he showed flair and an eye for a cross that earned him the man of the match award.

Speaking about, Blair, Jermyn remarked: “It was deserved. He brought pace and enthusiasm. He’s come here and it’s given him a lift.

“He’s been fantastic and he plays without fear. He did very well.”

Blair came off after an hour with a slight limp but, his manager insists that there is no issues with the 17-year-old.

It was their second win over Frome Town this season and the manager hopes his team can take their form into Saturday’s home game against Redditch United.

He explained: “We have a difficult game on the weekend and there could be a change of personnel.”
