A HEARTBROKEN Mark Jermyn felt his players were “outstanding” despite their 2-1 loss to Slough Town – a game that included some questionable decisions, according to the player-manager.

Nathan Walker opened the scoring after 10 minutes before Charlie Moone netted the equaliser in the 23rd minute.

Then came the sickener for the away side as Guy Hollis scored with two minutes to play after a free-kick wasn’t cleared. And it was the play before the set-piece that bemused Jermyn.

Speaking after the game, the boss told Echosport: “I feel sorry for the players because they didn’t deserve it.

“I spoke to the referee (Gregory Reid) after the game and he conceded that he should have given a free-kick (before Slough’s free-kick that led to the goal), it makes it twice as worse.

“That’s the heartbreaker because the boys didn’t deserve it.”

Speaking about his team’s performance, he added: “We’re getting everything out of our team at the moment.

“After that performance, I thought they were outstanding to match a team like Slough’s.

“But, we had more chances than them in the second half. They had more pressure but we had more shots.”

“I couldn’t single out a player. I thought everybody who played gave 100 per cent and they didn’t deserve that.”

Jermyn went off with an injury just before the break after a 50-50 challenge. Asked how he was, he answered: “It’s between the bone, which is a funny one. It felt like a searing pain and all I felt was a stud. I’ll be alright. It will be fine.”

The Magpies are back in action on Saturday in the FA Trophy when they take on Barnstaple Town at the Avenue.
