CHRIS Shephard gave his thoughts on what he described as a “disgusting” challenge on him during the 0-0 draw against King’s Lynn Town on Tuesday night.

The Weymouth playmaker was helped off 14 minutes from time with a nasty looking knee injury and was left with wounds on both legs following a tackle by Lynn skipper Sam Gaughran.

Asked for his initial thoughts on the challenge, Shephard replied: “It was disgusting to be fair, with two feet.

“He might have got a touch on the ball but I have a mark right across my shin just under my right knee and right across my left knee as well.

“Fingers crossed it’s just impact. If I had dangled my leg in or gone in half-heartedly I don’t know what would have happened. I think I would have been looking at a serious injury.”

He added: “I have seen Lloyd (Beals, club physio) and he said there is not much he can do at this moment because it is all swollen. He said just to ice it and rest it and that he would be in contact over the next few days.

“Hopefully it’s just impact and maybe a little bit of bruising. Fingers crossed I’m fit for Saturday.”

Referee Lewis Sandoe did not give a foul for the challenge, instead awarding a throw-in.

Shephard added: “For the linesman not to pick it up as well, for me it is absolutely ludicrous. Those are the challenges that can end careers, luckily I came out of it like I have.”
