NEW boss Craig Laird admitted he is still pondering his options over who will captain the Magpies under his leadership.

Since former skipper Jake Smeeton’s departure to Poole Town last month, both Matt Oldring and Nathan Walker have taken on the role as skipper of the side.

Oldring was given the captaincy in the 1-1 draw at Basingstoke Town, with Stuart Heath in interim charge at that time.

In Laird’s first game at the helm on Saturday against Banbury United, Walker, who has captained the county town side previously, donned the armband with Oldring out of the squad having picked up an illness.

Asked by Echosport about the captaincy situation, Laird replied: “I think we will have a chat with Nathan and Matty and see how they both feel about it.

“I am still looking at the team and still looking at players.

“They are two players that you want to keep at the club and I wouldn’t want to upset the ambience between the two of them!”

He added: “Nathan is a natural leader but I heard Matty did a decent job at Basingstoke.

“I am sure between the three of us we will be able to sort something out on who is going to lead the club going forward.”
