DORCHESTER RES 7

BOURNEMOUTH RES 0

DORCHESTER Reserves recorded an astounding 7-0 victory over south-coast rivals Bournemouth Poppies at the Avenue.

Billy Mitchell got the game off to a flyer when he latched on to a long ball played behind the visiting defence, using his pace to round the goalkeeper 25 yards out to tap into an empty net.

Dorchester’s lead was doubled just minutes later when Bournemouth’s Harry Grant played his pass directly to Billy Brumble who laid off for Caleb Tennant.

Tennant then struck a perfectly placed lob over the flailing keeper from 40 yards for a quite remarkable second.

It was the big defender who made it three, with Tennant getting onto the end of a Dorchester free-kick from the left flank and placing the ball into the far corner of the net.

Just before half-time, the Magpies extended their lead again with Darryl Bagwell capitalising on some lapse defending from the away side, and hammering home from 30 yards to put the game beyond doubt.

Things went from bad to worse for Bournemouth who gave the ball away needlessly once again to Jamie Rawlings who started an excellent team move, culminating in Mitchell prodding home at the far post from a ball across the face of goal.

Dorchester’s young guns looked keen to prove themselves to new senior manager, Craig Laird, and may well have given him something to think about.

A slick one-two between Rawlings and Brumble resulted in the ball falling to Mitchell once again, who finished for a much deserved hat-trick.

Despite a good performance, the poor possession play from the visitors certainly played into Dorchester’s hands, when a Bournemouth corner was intercepted, resulting in a swift counter attack from the hosts leaving substitute Ben Morris one on one with the keeper who slotted home to make it seven.

It was a special night at the Avenue, and with manager Laird keen to make improvements to his squad some of this crop may well have done enough to deserve a chance in the first team.
