TERRAS’ boss Jason Matthews believed there was a “positive feeling” following Saturday’s fans’ forum at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The Weymouth player-manager sat down alongside chairman Chris Pugsley following the 1-1 draw with Stratford Town, to field questions from supporters about a range of topics involving the club.

One of the key and most heated talking points of the forum was the club’s lacklustre league position, with Matthews admitting to Echosport following the discussion that it would be a “very tall order” for him to reach the play-offs – the target the club initially set at the start of the season.

But Matthews remained defiant and insisted it was up to him now to prove himself to the club’s fans that he was still the man to take the team forward.

Asked whether he would have to think about things, should the Terras miss out on the top-five, Matthews replied: “Yeah, very much so.

“It’s been a very frustrating season for me personally, as well as the supporters. It will give me a chance to re-evaluate where we are at the end of the season.

“If I feel that, if we make big strides in the next 20 games, it gives me a positive base to build on and gives me momentum going into next season.

“If we don’t do that then I would seriously consider my position.”

He added: “I’m in a position where I need to prove myself and I am going to go about it in the best way I can.

“I feel that I have learnt the most that I have about management since I have been under pressure and I have learnt a lot about myself as well.”

On the forum as a whole, Matthews said: “I actually feel it went well.

“I feel it cleared up a few things between the management and the supporters and they got a good chance to say how they felt. I hope I answered a few of their questions and their frustrations.

“Obviously it was not something I was thoroughly looking forward to and probably another draw at home added fuel to the fire.

“At the end of it, I felt it was a positive thing. I’m glad it happened and I hope it’s cleared the air and we can move on as a club.”

He continued: “I appreciate these people. They pay their money and they are entitled to their opinions. I want the same things as them and I get incredibly frustrated.

“There would be nobody more frustrated than me if we didn’t make the play-offs but I’m a realist. I know that it is a very tall order to make them now.”
