HAMBLE CLUB 2

WEYMOUTH RESERVES 0

WEYMOUTH Reserves were outclassed as they lost 2-0 to title-challengers Hamble Club on Saturday.

The Terras went into the game missing 11 regular squad members and it appeared the task was too great for the side as their lack of experience showed.

It was a tough first half as the visitors played against the wind but they could have taken an early lead after a penalty appeal was turned down inside five minutes.

What followed was a 20-minute spell of dominance for Weymouth who didn’t seem able to capitalise on the slow start made by the hosts.

Hamble seemed to grow into the game and adapt to the conditions after this, as they endeavoured to play the ball into the penalty area, taking advantage of the blustery conditions.

This created numerous opportunities and gave them the lead after a free-kick was lumped into the box and converted to make it 1-0.

Weymouth reacted positively and tried to play to their surroundings a little more but were dealt a blow as they failed to clear their lines and gave away a penalty on the stroke of half-time which was duly converted.

After a lively first half, the second was a little bit of a non-event, as Hamble managed the game with ease, and despite a flurry of opportunities for Weymouth, they managed to see the game out to secure a comfortable win.

Despite the loss, manager Bradley Asagba was keen to remain grounded on the display.

He said: “We had 10 or 11

players out so we knew it was going to be really difficult playing against a top-of-the-league team and not only are they a good team but they’re also really experienced.

“Credit to them, although they might not be the best footballing side they’re very organised and executed their game plan very well.”

“I’m disappointed because we never aim to lose but in the circumstances we did as well as we could have done and ultimately we were masters of our own downfall.

“It was one of those games where we never really got a foothold against a very experienced team.”

Asagba was also complimentary of the performance he’d seen from Hamble.

He said: “Given where they are in the league and the way they manage games I think the league is theirs to lose.

“They’re all experienced and are over the age of 25-26 and they have players who haven’t just played at this level, they’ve played a couple of levels above.

“Results were also favourable for them so I think it’ll be difficult for anyone to catch them now.”
