DORCHESTER Town manager Craig Laird was keen to take the positives despite seeing his side lose 1-0 against St Ives Town.

The Magpies conceded inside eight minutes to lose the game, but the boss was quick to praise his side’s overall performance.

He said: “After the first 15 or 20 minutes when they scored, I would say were the better side.

“It was a sloppy goal to concede. I know it’s a long trip, but they need to focus on how they do prepare and make sure they’re ready to go at 3 o’clock, which is the most important time in their week.

“We were the better footballing side but just didn’t create enough chances or take the ones that came our way.

“There’s lots of positives. We were annoyed with the opening 20 minutes because we didn’t carry out our gameplan.

“But once we got through the goal we put them under pressure and had some good opportunities but didn’t quite get over the line.”

Laird’s team had the opportunity to make it three wins on the bounce with a victory, and Laird is happy with the progress being made by his team.

He said: “We look a much better and stronger side, and we look a lot harder to beat.

“We’re all disappointed because we’ve been on a nice little run. They wanted a result from Saturday and hopefully they’ve learnt from it.”
