SWANAGE T&H 2

TWO goals from Jamie West ensured Dorchester Sports sealed a point against Swanage in a competitive contest at the Avenue.

The result leaves the county town side seventh in the league table with 47 points from 26 games played.

Sports were looking to improve following their disappointing loss against Blandford last time out and, with the club’s reserves not having a game, manager Ashley James called up Steve Churchill, Ed Eastick and Jamie West to shake the squad up.

But the contest did not start well for the hosts as a corner from Jacob Harrop found striker Graeme Rose unmarked in the box, who easily headed in after just five minutes.

However, Sports regrouped and drew level on 18 minutes when Eastick played in West and the in-form frontman and former Terra made no mistake by placing his shot past Jack Watson.

Visitors Swanage had the better of the remaining half and got themselves back in front when Harrop crossed for Rose to head in at the back post for 2-1 and the Swans had two more efforts cleared off the line before the half ended.

The Dorchester outfit come out with a point to prove following the break and equalised early in the second half when an Eastick free-kick was dropped by the visiting keeper and former Terra West was there to tap in for his sixth first-team goal in just three games.

In a bid to find a winner, West and Richard Beasley linked up well and the Swans’ stopper had to produce a wonderful one-handed save after Beasley volleyed at goal.

Sports’ striker Jordan Butler also saw his low drive saved as the teams could not be separated.

Reacting after the game, manager James said: “It was a good game with a good pace through it, played at a good intensity.

“We got a response from the previous week, which was what we were looking for, it was 100 times better.

“We played well and I don’t think either team deserved to lose, although both teams had chances to win it. On reflection it was probably a fair result.”
