PORTLAND United chairman Robin Satherley insists that tomorrow's potentially title-deciding game for the Blues is the club’s biggest clash in two decades.

Should the islanders beat Bemerton Heath Harlequins at Grove Corner (3pm), they will be in with a shout of claiming the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division title.

Manager Gary Bailey’s side could win the league this weekend if they are victorious and current leaders Moneyfields lose against Newport (IOW).

If both the top two win their respective contests, they will have a nervous wait for an FA hearing over Moneyfields’ potential points deduction over fielding a suspended player back in January – that hearing is set to take place on Wednesday.

Asked how much winning the league would mean to him, Blues’ chief Satherley replied: “To me personally, I imagine it would be the best thing that has happened to me since I have been at Portland United Football Club, and I have been here 50 years.

“It’s the biggest game in the club’s history over the last 20 years, without a shadow of a doubt.”

He added: “I am very proud, I am only one of a committee of 16 people at the club and they have worked extremely hard.

“It’s not only the players, it’s all the backroom staff, the programme sellers, the people in the tea hut, the bar staff, everybody has brought this together and I think we are proving to be quite a force in Dorset football.”

And Satherley hopes that the potentially historic fixture for the Blues attracts a bumper crowd to the island.

He added: “I am very confident that, if we get good support on Saturday, then we will get ourselves over that line. Then we may have to see what the FA decide with regards to the points deduction.

“If we can possibly, hopefully, have a crowd of 300 on Saturday, that is what we are looking for.

“Gary Bailey and Mark Carter have brought this team along and I think we fully deserve to be where we are at the moment. Come what may, win, lose or draw. We have had a fantastic season.”
