MANAGER Mark Molesley believes Charlie Davis “is the right sort of character” to help take Weymouth forward, after agreeing terms to keep the midfielder for next season.

Former AFC Bournemouth youngster Davis adds to the list of retained players at the Bob Lucas Stadium, with Stephane Zubar, Ashley Wells and Sean Stewart also set to stay on next term.

And Molesley insisted it was the desire of the young midfielder that has been the driving force in the deal getting done.

“Charlie has the right attitude,” the Terras’ boss told Echosport.

“I think he will thrive in and is looking for the environment that we are going to create.

“He wants to get better, train hard, and is always looking at how he can improve. I think he’s a good age, he’s still young and I think we can improve him a lot more.

“He has the values that we are looking for in a player and we are delighted to get him on board.

“He knows this level now and is the right sort of character, he’s driven and wants to get better every day. They are the characters we want at this football club.”

Also speaking to Echosport about the decision to remain with the club, 21-year-old Davis said: “I have known Moles for quite a few years now and I know what he’s like. I know what his work ethic is like.

“As soon as he called me and spoke about what he wanted to do next year and how he wanted to play, it wasn’t really much of a hard decision, to be honest. Once we sorted out all the finer details I was happy to sign.”

He added: “Moles is really switched on and has a good idea of what he wants to do.

“I think he thinks about football in a similar way to how I do. He plays where I do as well and I think that helps me a lot.

“I just think Weymouth is the right place for me to be at, under the right people for me to keep pushing on.”
