GOALKEEPER Shane Murphy claimed that not being “completely happy” at the Avenue influenced his decision to leave the Magpies.

Murphy, who has since joined AFC Totton, said that the opportunity to join the Stags was too good to turn down.

He said: “I loved being at Dorchester and anyone who knows me knows I was Dorchester through and through and would do anything for the club.

“But over the last year-and-a-half I haven’t been completely happy for numerous reasons and I didn’t want to go through another season like that.

“It was nothing to do with our league position or the situation we were in. For my best interests I felt I needed to go somewhere where I could go and enjoy my football again to get back to my best.

“There are reasons that I don’t want to go into. I went into the club every week and trained hard, and there was just a few bits that didn’t sit right with me which perhaps made it not as enjoyable as it could have been.”

He added: “Totton got in touch with me last week and I went and spoke with them and they’ve got some plans for next year for how they want the club to run, and it’s a really exciting time for them at the moment.

“They’ve got a young manager coming through, they want to play football the right way and, off the pitch, they’re going to do things the right way as well. From what they’ve said, I’m really excited to get started.

“I’m extremely grateful for all the help I’ve had at Dorchester since I first joined. I want to say a massive thank you to everyone at the club, especially Steve Dodge, Heathy (Stuart Heath) and all the volunteers. There’s some great people at the club and all of their work is appreciated by me and they’re the people that the club need to keep hold of, because they really care.

“Thanks also goes to the fans. They haven’t had a great time recently but hopefully the club can turn that around and go back to where they should be, which is pushing towards the Conference South.”
