STRIKER Harry Baker admitted he may need to be patient to land a big opportunity with the Terras but is looking to impress when the chance comes around.

The 23-year-old agreed terms with Weymouth having made the switch from Gillingham Town in the summer, and has come off the bench in the Terras’ first two friendlies against Yeovil Town and Exeter City.

And, having gauged the level in which he is stepping up to this season, the former Frome Town man insists he is capable of delivering the goods.

“It’s obviously going to be a huge jump but I just need to knuckle down, work hard, and I’m sure I’ll cope with it when I’m given the chance to play,” frontman Baker told Echosport.

“I’m 23 now and I thought I was not going to get too many more chances to step up. Weymouth is a massive club with a big fan base, I thought it was the right move.

“It’s such a big club that I understand that it’s going to take time. I just need to be patient and hopefully take the chances when they come.

“We have some quality strikers in Brandon (Goodship) and Thommo (Ben Thomson). It’s just a case of doing your best when you get the opportunity.”

Baker, who is set to be named in the Weymouth squad that takes on Torquay United in a friendly at the Bob Lucas Stadium this afternoon (3pm), has also been hugely impressed by the structure implemented by manager Mark Molesley.

Asked about his new boss, the striker replied: “I will be doing my utmost to impress the manager. He has that feel about him like you really want to impress him and not let him down.”
