DORCHESTER Town assistant-manager Trevor Senior hopes that a “positive performance” in their final pre-season game against Evesham United will set the Magpies up for the approaching league season.

Craig Laird’s men face the Robins at the Avenue Stadium tonight (7.45pm) and Senior is eyeing a good display to maximise confidence levels going into their first game against Banbury United a week tomorrow.

He told Echosport: “I would say it would be nice to go into the campaign with a clean sheet and a positive performance. Obviously a result would help but it’s not essential.

“We’re all gunning for the 12th (at Banbury), that’s our main aim but just to get a positive performance and make sure the lads go into the game with some confidence.”

Senior also revealed that he is not concerned by a leaky defence that has shipped 14 goals during pre-season.

“In defence of the defence we have conceded 14 goals, six of those against Exeter. I don’t think there’s any that Chris Weale can be blamed for.

“The one at Portland was one that could have been dealt with earlier but the goals against us have been top drawer. There’s no panic at the moment,” he said.

Dorchester trained yesterday night and are expected to add Ross Carmichael and Dom Panesar-Dower to the matchday squad after their returns from holiday.
