DORCHESTER Town have completed a double swoop for midfield prospects Jordan Lovibond and Leighton Thomas, with both signing Southern League registration forms.

The duo had both been on trial at the Avenue during pre-season but manager Craig Laird feels both men will benefit from game time at other clubs, such is the competition for places in wide areas.

He told Echosport: “We’re going to put Jordan out on loan now to a club. He hurt his knee actually against Bideford, but we’ve signed him as a prospect for longer-term.

“He’ll go out on loan and play at a level slightly below where we’re at and hopefully progress and we’ll keep him as a Dorchester player.

“Leighton, we spoke to him in midweek and made a decision on him. We’ll probably find that he’ll have to find games elsewhere. He’s probably as good as what we’ve got but not better.

“He’s a good player and will be better but he needs to play football. He’s in competition with Ed Bastick and we’ve got Beas (Jamie Beasley) and Tom (Blair) as well.”

Thomas, a former youth player at Yeovil, hails from the Cayman Islands and is a former CONCACAF under-15 golden boot winner, while Lovibond has featured regularly for Devon under-16s and played for Bridgwater Town last season.
