DORCHESTER Town’s hat-trick hero Aaron Rodriguez was happy to play his part in the Magpies' 7-2 win over Gosport Borough, describing the result as “a big victory”.
The winger, on a month’s loan at the Avenue Stadium from rivals Weymouth, opened the scoring for his new side and sealed his treble with two second-half strikes.
Speaking to Echosport, Rodriguez admitted he was pleased with his display on a “personal note”.
He said: “Obviously I’m pleased on a personal note for getting the hat-trick and to get some more minutes under my belt. More importantly, it was about the result. It was a big game and a big victory.
“The first one I didn’t strike as cleanly as I would have liked. I was relieved to see it go over the line. The other two were a bit more of my own work.”
But Rodriguez remains grounded in the knowledge that his stint with the Magpies is purely about regaining fitness.
He said: “It’s just about getting fitness levels back to where they should be and being able to help Dorchester along the way as well.
“I was surprised because after Saturday I came off really early. I was struggling after Saturday.
“I managed to play through a couple of knocks and I played a lot longer than I thought I’d be able to.
“I’ve not had a pre-season and I’ve got a long way to go. I think I’ve got eight games on this loan so after that I should be working my way back to full fitness.”
Dorchester host Chesham United in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier at the Avenue today (3pm).
