WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley praised a “battling performance” from the Terras during their 2-1 win over St Neots Town in their Evo-Stik Southern League Premier encounter at Rowley Park.

Brandon Goodship and Harry Baker goals moved Weymouth into a 2-0 lead, but a Johnny Herd strike on 63 minutes set up a tense finale for Molesley’s men.

But they held on to record their fourth straight league win and second in four days after a 6-2 pasting of Farnborough.

The Terras’ boss was also buoyed by his side’s determination, lauding his defenders for being “resolute at the end”.

He told Echosport: “It was a long journey for us with two games on the spin. It was a battling performance, it wasn’t our vintage best but it was a massive three points.

“What we did show was real character. There were a few tired legs with the quick turnaround and we had less recovery time than St Neots.

“We had our moments and when we do get our players in good areas we have got the quality to finish. We took our chances when we needed to and we were resolute at the end.

“When you’re 2-1 up away from home the incentive is on the other team to score a goal. It was backs to the wall at the end and they’re a good young side.

“They’re one of the league’s form sides and we had to defend well. We shut them out and limited any clear-cut chances. We had to defend a lot of balls into our box and I felt we stood up to it.”

With Goodship and Baker in superb form, Molesley feels the club is “lucky” to possess an arsenal of strikers that also includes Ben Thomson and Matt Tubbs.

He said: “We have got some good attacking players, they’re in good form at the moment.

“Brandon has scored and has an assist. Harry is a breath of fresh air. He loves playing in a Weymouth shirt and he certainly knows where the goal is.

“It’s important to say that Thommo has been performing for us and Tubbsy helps us out with his experience and his talking.

“We’re lucky we’ve got a good set of strikers on our books at the moment.”

Although the Terras have picked up six points on the road in two games, Molesley admitted he was more satisfied with the “togetherness” and “team spirit” of his squad.

He said: “Away from home we have picked up six points on the road. Wednesday we showed some really good free-flowing stuff and (on Saturday) it was our battling qualities.

“All in all a pleasing week for us. It shows how hard the boys are working. We’ll see how far we can take the potential – we’re a young squad.

“The most pleasing thing for me and my staff is to see the togetherness of the squad and a good team spirit.”
